Now Known for Strauss-Kahn, Town House Was Known for Its Renovation

Updated, 5:23 p.m. | Even before the luxurious town house at 153 Franklin Street came under the spotlight for its newest tenant, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, it had attracted attention in the real estate world for its long and costly renovation.
Purchased for almost $6.8 million in 2008, according to PropertyShark.com, the 27-foot-wide town house underwent a renovation that cost around $4 million and took about a year and a half, said Leopoldo Rosati, the architect who oversaw it.
Mr. Rosati said he had gutted the house to make it feel more loft-like — “we are in TriBeCa so we needed to create open spaces,” he explained. He added a kitchen enclosed by sliding wood panels, a basement gym and screening room and a planted terrace on the second floor, with much of the stone and metal work completed in Italy.
The owner had put the house on the market in 2009 for just under $15 million, later dropping the price to just under $14 million, where it remains now.
There had been interest in the property and a number of deals that came close but fell through for different reasons, said Robert Dvorin, who said he handled the property at Prudential Douglas Elliman and brought it to the Town Residential agency, where it was listed for rent at $50,000 a month.
Mr. Dvorin, who represented only the property owner, said Mr. Strauss-Kahn was brought in as a renter by an agent from another brokerage. He would not discuss the transaction.
But, Mr. Dvorin said, the renewed attention could help finally sell the property.
“Who knows?” he said. “Maybe somebody somewhere in the world will see it and fall in love with the house and buy it. That would be incredible.”

Οι καιροί αλλάζουν. Και οι άνθρωποι.
Την ώρα που χιλιάδες άνθρωποι διαδήλωναν στο Σύνταγμα για ένα καλύτερο αύριο σε ένα σύγχρονο " πολυτεχνείο", η εκφωνήτρια του πολυτεχνείου του '73 Μαρία Δαμανάκη - επίτροπος της Ε.Ε. σήμερα- ζητούσε να υποστούμε τη σκληρή λιτότητα αδιαμαρτύρητα.
Οι καιροί αλλάζουν. Και οι άνθρωποι.
Και η σημερινή διαμαρτυρία ήθελε μιά σπίθα. Κι αυτή ήρθε από την Ισπανία. Ήταν ένα σύνθημα για τους Έλληνες που κοιμούνται. Και μας ξύπνησε!
Μέσα σε λίγες ώρες μέσω ίντερνετ κινητοποιήθηκαν χιλιάδες. Με χαρακτηριστικά του...καλού πολυτεχνείου. Χωρίς κομματικές ταμπέλες και κάλυψη. Χωρίς τους παλαιοσυνδικαλιστές που είναι και αυτοί μέρος του προβλήματος. Χωρίς κουκούλες. Χωρίς βία. Με τα παιδιά στα καρότσια, χέρι-χέρι, με πάθος, αποφασιστικότητα και χωρίς "καπέλο" ζήτησαν να σταματήσουν οι θυσίες χωρίς αντίκρισμα.
Δεν το έκαναν πέρυσι. Γιατί πίστεψαν ότι τα σκληρά μέτρα θα φέρουν λύση. Τώρα όμως ένα χρόνο μετά που χωρίς αιδώ η κυβέρνηση λέει ξανά ότι χρειάζονται κι άλλα σκληρά μέτρα γιατί τα προηγούμενα δεν κατάφερε να τα αξιοποιήσει, κάποιος πρέπει να πει μιά συγνώμη και να πληρώσει το τίμημα.
Και δεν το αναλαμβάνει κανείς. Η ίδια κινδυνολογία. Η ίδια επιχειρηματολογία. Λες και ο ένας χρόνος που πέρασε πήγε χαμένος μαζί με τις θυσίες. Με μόνο κέρδος λίγες μονάδες στο έλλειμμα που παρουσιάζονται σαν...παγκόσμιο ρεκόρ.

Η μεγάλη απάτη της υπερθέρμανσης του πλανήτη μας. Ολόκληρο το video διάρκειας 75 λεπτών με Ελληνικούς υπόλιτλους
Ένας από τους πιο διακεκριμένους καθηγητές φυσικής, ο Αμερικανός, Harold Lewis, καθηγητής του Πανεπιστημίου της Καλιφόρνια, παραιτήθηκε από την Ένωση Αμερικανών Φυσικών APS (American Physical Society), καταγγέλλοντάς ότι εξυπηρετεί περίεργα συμφέροντα.
Παράλληλα κατηγόρησε μέλη της Ένωσης για χρηματισμό προκειμένου να συντηρούν τη μεγαλύτερη επιστημονική απάτη, της παγκόσμιας υπερθέρμανσης του πλανήτη, όπως αναφέρει.
Στη επιστολή, που έστειλε προς τον πρόεδρο της APS, αναφέρει, μεταξύ άλλων:
"Για λόγους που θα φανούν στη συνέχεια, είναι καλύτερη η υπερηφάνεια που είχα παλαιότερα, ως μέλος της Ένωσης, η οποία τώρα έχει εκπέσει σε ντροπή, γι' αυτό υποβάλλω την παραίτησή μου".
Και ο λόγος, είναι φυσικά το μεγάλο ψέμα της παγκόσμιας υπερθέρμανσης του πλανήτη μας. Η απάτη αυτή, απορροφά τρισεκατομμύρια δολάρια και έχει διαφθείρει πολλούς επιστήμονες, όπως και σύσσωμη την APS.

THE HOPED-FOR RECONSTRUCTION Towers 2 and 3 will be initially limited to foundations and lower levels. Earliest completion for Tower 3 is 2015; there is no timetable for Tower 2.
It will take much longer than that to heal the gaping wound in the Lower Manhattan cityscape. Blame politics, finances, legalities and the challenge of making the many compromises necessary for such an enormous reconstruction effort. But after spending much time on cleanup and foundation work, progress is ever more visible: The soaring 1 World Trade Center and another skyscraper are rising by about one floor per week; a spacious memorial is to open on the 10th anniversary of the attack this fall.
A full rebuilding of the site is still several years away, when (and if) demand for office space improves. Here is a progress report on the main features of the new center.

After nearly a decade of hunting Osama bin Laden, a breakthrough came in August of 2010 when Bin Laden’s most trusted courier was located and identified. What followed was eight months of painstaking intelligence work, culminating in a helicopter assault in Abbottabad, Pakistan by American military and intelligence operatives that ended in the death of Bin Laden.

The Assault on Bin Laden’s Compound
The raid of Bin Laden’s compound lasted about 40 minutes. He and his family had been living on the second and third floors of the main building, which was the last area to be cleared by American forces. Bin Laden resisted and was shot in the head in the final minutes of the gun battle. Three other men and a woman were also killed.
